Resistance: Retribution Review (PSP Game)

Ah, Resistance: Retribution on the PSP, where do I even begin with this hilariously addictive masterpiece of a PSP game? We’re a soldier, a tough-as-nails protagonist named Grayson, battling hordes of Chimera goons with nothing but your wits and some serious firepower.

First things first, let’s talk about the story. Once you start playing, the story only gets better and it’s thanks to the character of James Grayson. From the moment he had to shoot his brother, I was drawn to Grayson. A smartass and a badass, Grayson’s that adult character we haven’t seen much of on the PSP. He curses, he screws and he’s only helping the Maquis and British Marines out because he made a promise to himself to kill every Chimera he possibly could.

The game’s physics can be a bit wonky at times. I’ve seen chimeran enemies fly through the air after being shot. The only real downside is similar to most PSP shooters: Control issues hamper this otherwise excellent side-story to the Resistance series. Still, don’t let those minor criticisms scare you off. Resistance: Retribution is a hell of a ride and packs a lot of punch — especially in the firepower department. There are a dozen weapons in Retribution and each is integral to your survival.

The game features a variety of weapons and gadgets, as well as a variety of enemies to fight. The weapons in this game are pure gold. All the Resistance classics make a return like the Bullseye with it´s aim bot secondary fire or the slow mo sniper L23 Fareye.

But the best part of the game is the dialogue. Grayson, our fearless hero, delivers one-liners left and right. I mean, who could forget lines like, “Alright run! Before my better judgement kicks in and I kick your arse!” Classic.

In conclusion, Resistance: Retribution on the PSP is the kind of game that’s so bad, it’s good. It’s like a B-movie you can play, with aliens, explosions, and more one-liners than you can shake a chimera tentacle at. If you’re looking for a gaming experience that’s as entertaining as it is ridiculous, grab your PSP and prepare to embark on a journey that’s so over-the-top, you’ll wonder if it was all just a fever dream.

Little known Gaming Kick FACT: Always give the handheld spinoffs a try. This is one of the best PSP shooters. Can´t wait to give the PS Vita Resistance game a try!
